Moving from provisional to permanent NTA approval

A provisional certificate lasts six months. What NTA expects to see before it grants the permanent certificate, and how to plan your first shipment around it.

NTA type approval happens in two stages. Understanding the second stage before you apply saves a lot of trouble later.

Stage one: the provisional certificate

Once NTA has reviewed your documents, it issues a provisional certificate valid for six months. During this time the approved models can be imported and sold in Nepal.

Stage two: the permanent certificate

Before the provisional certificate expires, the holder applies for the periodic permanent certificate, which is generally valid for up to five years. NTA expects evidence that the products were actually imported or sold during the provisional period.

Planning your first shipment

The six months start when the provisional certificate is issued, not when you are ready to ship. If your launch in Nepal is months away, it can be better to time the application so the first shipment lands well inside the provisional period.

Keep a record of import documents and sales figures from the start. For cellular devices, make sure these figures match what is registered in NTA’s MDMS.

What we do

We track every certificate’s expiry date, remind you before it matters, collect the evidence NTA needs and file the permanent application on time.
