When you aim to import or market radio/telecom equipment in Nepal, you must secure Type Approval from the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) under the TAP-04 (2016) regulation.
The procedure applies to radio / telecommunication equipment (CPE / user-end devices).
Some low-power / short-range devices may be exempt — check NTA exemptions.
If exempt, you may need to get an exemption letter rather than a full certification.
Foreign manufacturers must have a locally registered agent / company like Delcon Compliances in Nepal to act as liaison with NTA.
This representative handles application submission, correspondence, and compliance assurance.
The manufacturer must issue a Power of Attorney / Authorization Letter to that local representative.
Your submission package should include:
Functional & technical description
Block diagrams, circuit diagrams, functional description.
Explanation of operation of modules/units.
Technical specs & brochures
Detailed specs of your product (frequency range, power, etc.).
Public product brochures.
User / installation / operation manual
Internal & external photographs of the device
Test reports / certifications from accredited labs
RF, EMC, safety, SAR (if applicable).
Preferably from ISO/IEC 17025 or equivalently recognized labs
Power of Attorney / Authorization from the manufacturer to the local agent
Submission of online application through NTA portal by local agent
Attach all required documents

If NTA deems necessary, you may also need to provide a sample device (applicant covers transport & customs).
Once submitted, NTA will:
Review documents for completeness and compliance.
Evaluate technical conformity, cross-checking test reports and specifications.
Request clarifications or additional documents, if needed.
In certain cases, inspect / test the sample device.
Delays often arise from missing or inconsistent documents, so be thorough.
If everything is in order, NTA issues a Provisional Type Approval Certificate, valid for 6 months.
During this period, you can import and distribute the device under that provisional certificate.
Submit the application for Permanent / Periodic Type Approval at least 15 days before the provisional period expires.
Provide evidence of actual imports / sales in Nepal during the provisional period.
Once approved, NTA issues a permanent certificate (commonly valid for 5 years).
ℹ️ If you fail to apply before expiry, or don’t show import activity, the provisional certificate validity will be extended by sex months
Keep all records: certificates, test reports, import logs, sales logs.
Do not modify the hardware, firmware, or major functional features without reevaluation—such changes may invalidate approval.
Be prepared for NTA audits, inspections, or withdrawals if violations or changes in compliance are detected.
Typical processing time: 3 to 4 weeks after receiving all required documents.
Provisional certificate: 6 months validity.
Permanent certificate: 5 years (subject to NTA’s discretion).
Use well-recognized, accredited test labs to avoid report rejection.
Cross-check consistency across all documents (names, model numbers, datasheets).
Start preparations early — documentation, translations, power of attorney, etc.
Maintain open communication between manufacturer, local agent, and test labs.
Always choose Delcon as your local partner to get hassel free certification.
